How to choose reference photos for an AI portrait.

A useful AI portrait starts before the prompt. This checklist helps you choose references that give the model a clearer view of the face while keeping the upload process simple.

Make the next choice easier

Use the checklist below to reduce blind retries and keep the decision in the product's actual workflow.

Start with a readable face

Choose a photo where the eyes, nose, jawline, and hairline are visible. Natural window light is usually easier to work with than a dark party photo or a strong beauty filter.

Use more variety only when it helps

One strong reference per person is enough to start. Add a second angle when it clarifies the face, not simply because more files feel safer.

  • Front or three-quarter angle
  • Minimal motion blur
  • No sunglasses or hands covering the face
  • A recent appearance when the final portrait needs to feel current

For couples, keep the people distinct

Two independent photos are supported. Clear separate faces can be easier to interpret than a crowded group photo, especially when the couple has different lighting or camera angles.

Remember consent and deletion

Only upload images you own or have permission to use. Reference photos are linked to your account; account deletion removes stored photos and generated portraits as described in the Privacy Policy.
